What to expect on the winner-states pages
In general, these pages contain a summary of the states where the jackpot winning tickets were sold, the
total number of jackpots won, and the amounts for the year in question. Also, the state with highest earnings for that year
as well as the participating states are listed. However, since we do not have sufficient data for
the years prior to 1998, the states where the jackpots were won are not listed for 1992 to 1997.
Due to the cross-selling agreement between Powerball and Mega Millions in 2010, nearly all lottery playing
states play both games. The only exceptions at the time were - California (which did not play Powerball), and Florida and Louisiana (which
did not play Mega Millions). For this reason, we have also added second prize winner states for years from 2010 to date. The
pages for these years are designed in a manner in which the user can re-arrange the list in order to identify the highest
and lowest jackpot and second prize data.
